Behind the Butterfly Gate is Merryn Corcoran’s fourth novel.

Synopsis

The ‘sins of the father’ have the capacity to initiate lifetimes of shame.

Hidden behind the butterfly gate is where the secret has been kept for 76 years.

Set between Menton, on the French Riviera, and Paris, this is a story of survival, shame and ultimately, love.

Madame Pollock, finally acknowledges the existence of her childhood apartment in Paris; her last memory of it was when she made a hurried, dramatic exit to the Riviera in 1945 with her mother.

Time is running out; she wants to revisit the apartment and understand that part of her past. Madame Pollock entrusts her quest to her new companion, Tilly, a young English woman.

Tilly carries her own mystery and secrets; a camaraderie of trust slowly ripens between the two women.

It takes weeks of research, carefully orchestrated subterfuge, and the recruitment of an attractive Parisian man to finally unearth the hidden apartment. A home of aristocratic proportions where the truth of what took place in the final year of WWII is revealed.
